Ribuan Siswa Ikuti Lomba Lukis Batik

Magelang (AFP) - Thousands of students kindergarten through high school in Magelang, Central Java, on Sunday following the coloring contest and painting batik motifs to welcome the 38th anniversary Korpri, and the 64th anniversary of PGRI and Teachers' Day.

Chairman of the Committee for the 38th anniversary Korpri, the 64th anniversary of PGRI, and Teacher's Day Magelang Sumartono said, recorded more than 5,000 participants running a race which was held in Magelang Square it.

Competition is open Fahriyanto Magelang mayor include two categories of batik motif color for the kindergarten through third grade and painted batik motif for students fourth grade through high school.

He said the purpose of this activity as an effort to preserve batik and also foster a love of batik as a cultural heritage of ancestors.

"Moreover, UNESCO has recognized that batik is a genuine cultural heritage in Indonesia, so we hope this activity motivation among students to love batik bigger," he said.

He hopes this batik gebyar activities can be followed up at the school level students on a particular day wear batik.

According to him, some of the work of students in this contest will be exhibited at the Expo Magelang on 8-10 December 2009.

"Given the limited and often rainy weather, the number of students work will be exhibited only 38 and 64 for coloring and painting batik motifs in accordance with the 38th anniversary Korpri and the 64th anniversary of PGRI," he said.

Sumartono said for coloring contest, pictures have been supplied the committee, while the motive for batik painting contest free students draw and color.

"Activities not contest our primary goal, but rather look at the resulting impact of the students enjoyed batik," he said.
